US and India finalize trade deal terms, says JD Vance

The US Vice-President was addressing a ceremony in Jaipur. In a significant indication in the wake of concerns over the effects of Donald Trump’s retaliatory tariffs, US Vice-President JD Vance has stated that his nation and India have agreed on terms of a trade agreement.

Addressing a function in Jaipur on Tuesday, a day after he meets with PM Narendra Modi, “Mr Vance said, “Our administration looks for trade partners based on fairness and of mutual national interests. We wish to establish relationships with our foreign partners who respect their workers, who do not repress their wages to increase exports, but respect the value of their labour.”

We desire partners who are willing to work with America to create things, not simply to let themselves become a pipeline for trade and shipping other nations‘ products. And, lastly, we desire to partner with individuals and nations who understand the historical significance of the moment we are in. of the necessity to unite and create something entirely new, a balanced system of international trade, an open system and a stable and equitable system, ” he stressed.

The Vice-President stated that though the governments of America’s allies do not necessarily have to do things in exactly the same manner as the US, they must share some shared objectives. Shared objectives with India, he said, are economics and national security-related.

That is why I am so proud to be here today. America has a friend in India and we want to deepen the warm ties our two great nations already enjoy,” he declared. Mr Vance noted that when President Trump and PM Modi, in February, declared that they want to more than double the bilateral trade between the two nations to $500 billion by the end of the decade, they were serious.

“As you all know, our two governments are working very hard on a trade agreement that reflects our common priorities, such as creating new jobs, developing resilient supply chains and ensuring prosperity for our workers. Yesterday, Prime Minister Modi and I made very good progress on all these points,” the US Vice President stated.
