The US backs Israel’s strikes that eliminated Hezbollah chief Nasrallah.
The US has characterized slain Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah‘s death in an Israeli airstrike as ‘justice’ for his victims including Americans and Israelis.
In a statement, US President Joe Biden said Nasrallah and the Shiite militant group were responsible for killing hundreds of Americans over decades of terror.
Vice President Kamala Harris also termed Nasrallah a terrorist with American blood on his hands, stating his leadership destabilized the region.
This comes as Israel intensified strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon, eliminating at least seven commanders in a week including Nasrallah.
Reports indicate bunker-buster bombs manufactured by the US were used to target Nasrallah. A Senator was quoted saying 900 kg Mark 84 bombs hit Hezbollah headquarters.
Though unaware of the attacks, the Biden administration has strongly backed Israel amid its operations against Hamas and Hezbollah groups.
Hezbollah emerged during Lebanon’s 1975 civil war and has actively opposed US-promoted forces since. This included lethal bombings targeting American installations in 1983 that shaped US-Hezbollah ties.
The strikes dismantling Iranian-backed Hezbollah control in Lebanon have brought a significant shift in the volatile geopolitics of West Asia.
