A huge political battle could be coming between Democratic vice-presidential pick Tim Walz and Republican candidate JD Vance. CBS News has invited them to a debate on October 1, ahead of the November 5 election.
Walz has agreed to the debate, directly challenging Vance by saying “See you on October 1, JD” on social media. However, Vance hasn’t confirmed yet. Speaking on Fox News, he said his team just learned about the invitation a few hours ago. They are discussing when they can debate.
But Vance raised concerns about having a fair debate platform. He bluntly stated, “We’re not going to walk into a fake news media garbage debate.”
Echoing his running mate Donald Trump’s views, Vance wants the right conditions like live audiences and impartial moderators. “We’re going to do a real debate, and if CBS agrees to it, then certainly we’ll do it,” he said.
This potential face-off is part of a bigger set of political clashes. The presidential nominees Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are also scheduled to debate each other in September, further heating the election atmosphere.
Previously, at his first rally as VP pick, Walz challenged Vance saying “I can’t wait to debate the guy, that is if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up.” On the other hand, Vance had expressed disappointment at missing a chance to debate Harris directly after Joe Biden withdrew.
As the two campaigns prepare, the nation keenly awaits this prospective clash of ideologies that could significantly impact the election discourse in the final weeks before November 5. Will the debate happen or will it remain an intriguing possibility?
