The US on Monday announced that it would impose visa restrictions on the owners, executives, and senior officials of travel agencies in India for knowingly allowing “illegal immigration” to the United States.
“Mission India’s Diplomatic Security and Consular Affairs Service work daily throughout our Embassy and Consulates to proactively identify and target individuals involved in making a business out of illegal immigration and human trafficking and smuggling operations,” the State Department stated.
The State Department is “taking action today to sanction owners, executives, and senior officials of travel agencies operating and based in India for facilitating illegal immigration to the US knowingly”, it stated. The announcement further stated that the US would “continue to take action to sanction owners, executives, and senior officials of travel agencies to sever alien smuggling networks”.
Our immigration policy seeks not only to educate foreign nationals on the risks of illegal immigration to the United States but also to hold accountable those who break our laws, such as facilitators of illegal immigration,” the State Department said. The State Department underlined that the implementation of US immigration laws and policies is crucial to the maintenance of the rule of law and the safety of American citizens.
