US NSA Sullivan: Hamas initiated the Gaza war, not Israel

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan held a Tel Aviv press conference Thursday reiterating US support for Israel amid the ongoing conflict. Sullivan highlighted the fact that Hamas broke off the Gaza war, pointing out that the United States is standing behind the state of Israel’s right to defend itself.

Among these issues, US NSA Sullivan touched upon the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and US-Israel relations concerning regional security.

Sullivan again stressed Israel did not seek or begin the war and that Hamas began the terrorism: “Israel has maintained readiness against Iran and its forces, and Iran chose recklessly to open a multifront war with Israel, he said.

He emphasized the balance shift in the Middle East with Israeli forces neutralizing successful leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah, aside from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad being kicked out. “These leaders are gone, and we will make sure they will not pose a threat once again,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan also said a durable ceasefire is anticipated in Lebanon and said that Israel is now working towards sealing the hostage deal to bring the war to an end.
