US, NZ back Canada on serious charges against India

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that allegations presented by Canada against India in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar “need to be taken seriously.”

New Delhi: The United States on Tuesday said that India is not cooperating with Canada on its investigation into the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year.

The remark by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller came amidst a deepening diplomatic row between Delhi and Ottawa.

India has firmly rejected a Canadian claim that it had earlier shared cogent evidence of Indian involvement in the Najjar case, terming as “preposterous” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for using this apparent political bargaining chip to appease Canada’s large Sikh community.

We have clarified that the Canadian allegations are grave and must be taken seriously. We wanted to see the Government of India cooperate with Canada and its investigation.

But, India has chosen an alternate path., says US Departmentâ€æ pic.twitter.com/Eqb7JSAUon — ANI (@ANI) October 15, 2024

In the Canadian case, we have said that the charges are very serious and need to be taken very seriously. We wanted to see the government of India cooperate with Canada in its investigation.

And obviously, they have not chosen that path, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Prime Minister Trudeau had been hostile towards India for a long time. In 2018, his so-called visit to India by way of garnering favor with a vote bank returned to discomfort;

He included members in his Cabinet who publicly aligned themselves with an extremist and separatist mindset toward India. His brazen interference in Indian internal politics in December 2020 proved how far he was ready to go in this manner,” the Ministry of External Affairs stated.
