The US backs Israel’s ground raids against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The United States has voiced support for Israel’s recent ‘limited, localized and targeted ground raids’ against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, discussing security developments and reiterating Washington’s backing for Israel’s right to self-defense.
Austin stated the necessity of dismantling attack infrastructure along the border to prevent a repeat of past Hezbollah assaults on Israeli communities.
He warned of ‘serious consequences’ if Iran attempted any direct military action against Israel during the ongoing operations.
The Pentagon earlier ordered unspecified American troops to pre-deployment status as Israel geared up for ground engagement in Lebanon.
Israel Defence Forces had announced commencing the raids on Tuesday, saying Hezbollah targets posed an immediate threat.
The locations were described as villages near the border. IDF said soldiers were following a methodical plan trained in recent months.
The Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group has suffered blows in recent days from Israeli assaults, viewed as aimed at demolishing the outfit in the aftermath of its chief’s assassination.
