US to send Indian Astronaut to ISS this year: Ambassador

The United States finally has a plan to launch an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS), with a target of completing the mission by the end of 2023. Garcetti said this at an event to fete the 248th year of the United States’ independence in New Delhi.

NASA administrator Charles Bolden joined Garcetti and said that, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated during his visit to this country, there were plans to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station this year. The next mission could deter the expanding collaboration between India and the United States in space.

Garcetti also talked about the NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar), a collaboration between NASA and ISRO for a world observation mission. According to him, it will be launched by the end of 2023.

The US envoy working on space appreciated India’s cheaper accomplishments, saying that India’s recent lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, was done at a relatively lower amount of dollars than the US.

For instance, Garcetti said the US has certain potentials that India has not acquired to this date and vice versa, adding that the two countries’ integration presents all the potentials in the combination of the two entities, whenever required.

The future space mission India plans to send a manned mission to the ISS, and Indian and American joint space endeavors highlight the growing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
