The US embassy said the new rules simplify the visa application process, reduce wait times, and give everyone a fair chance at a visa interview appointment.
New rules for non-immigrant visa applicants will be implemented on January 1, 2025, bringing massive relief to Indians wanting to visit the US.
The US embassy announced the rules on Wednesday (December 18) to streamline the visa application process, promising reduced wait times and a fair chance for everyone for a visa interview appointment.
We’re making some changes to ensure everyone has a fair chance at getting a visa interview appointment and reduce wait times, ” the company said in a social media post.
This move would probably benefit thousands of Indian techies. It comes after the outgoing Biden administration loosened rules for H-1B visas, making it easier for American companies to hire foreign workers with special skills and for people to transition from their F-1 student visa status to H-1B visas.
The US embassy has changed visa rescheduling policies. Now, visa applicants can reschedule their appointments once free of cost. However, they will have to pay the application fee if they miss an appointment or need to schedule a second time.
You can still schedule your first nonimmigrant visa appointment at the location of your choice starting January 1, 2025. If you have to reschedule for whatever reason, you can do that one time. If you miss your appointment or need to reschedule a second time, you will have to book a new appointment and pay your application fee again. Given the long wait times, make sure you can attend on the date you select, the embassy said in its Instagram post.
