US VP JD Vance offers condolences after Pahalgam attack

US Vice President JD Vance, US Second Lady Usha Chilukuri Vance, and their three kids—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—are on a three-day visit to India. Following the terror attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, US Vice President JD Vance, his wife, and US Second Lady Usha issued their deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.

Vance, who is in India, expressed his grief over the horrific accident that killed at least 27 individuals and left many others injured on Tuesday. Usha and I offer our condolences to the victims of the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. The last few days have left us overwhelmed by the beauty of this nation and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this monstrous attack,” he wrote in a social media site X post.

Terrorists fired at a renowned meadow close to Pahalgam town in Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon, and at least 27 died, while other people were wounded, in the deadliest attack so far in the valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019. The 27 dead include two foreigners.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the terror attack was “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years” and said the toll is being ascertained. The US vice president, accompanied by Indian-origin Second Lady Usha Chilukuri and their three children — sons Ewan and Vivek and daughter Mirabel — landed in Delhi on Monday.
