VP JD Vance to attend AI summit and Munich security conference

According to diplomatic sources who spoke with The Washington Post, US Vice President JD Vance is expected to make his first foreign trip, which will take him to Europe in order to attend the AI Action Summit scheduled in Paris on 10–11 February.

Apart from the summit, Vance is also likely to travel to Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference scheduled for February 13–14. The AI Action Summit, which France is hosting at the Grand Palais, will be co-chaired by India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed to attend. After the summit, Modi is expected to travel to Washington to meet with President Donald Trump.

These conferences, in addition to increasing international cooperation and discussion of issues in the field of AI, have previously been held in the UK and South Korea. The Munich Security Conference is to debate democracy, climate change, and a host of other pressing concerns of the day.

Relatedly, the Chinese AI model DeepSeek sent ripples in the U.S. tech space, especially after releasing the R1 model. Noted for cost and speed compared with many existing models in the U.S., DeepSeek’s technology provides access for a fraction of the cost, raising competition among AI firms.

It quickly reached the top rank as the most downloaded app within a month since release in the U.S. and contributed to a notable fall in the Nasdaq index, also pushing Nvidia’s stock down.

In response, President Trump welcomed Nvidia’s chief executive on Friday to announce the new program in which as many as $ 500 billion are to be spent on infrastructure investment in AI.
