X faces major cyberattack, leading to multiple outages

On Monday, X (formerly Twitter) reportedly suffered a significant cyberattack, and there are concerns it could be an organized group or even a nation-state. The attack resulted in three distinct outages during the day that each lasted nearly an hour.

Its owner, Elon Musk, visited X to confirm the incident, reporting, “There was (still is) a massive cyberattack on X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with high resources. Either a massive coordinated group and/or a country is behind it. Tracing.”

Data from Downdetector indicated the scale of the outages, with the first spike at 3:00 PM when nearly 2,200 reports of issues were reported by Indian users. There was a second spike at 7:30 PM with 1,500 reports, and additional access problems later in the evening at about 9:00 PM.

Ever since he bought X in 2022 at $44 billion, Musk has been in the headlines for a variety of reasons, like becoming the first user to be followed by 200 million on the website in 2023.

According to the analysis of Downdetector, 52 percent of the problems encountered were with the website, 41 percent were related to the mobile app, and 8 percent were related to server connectivity issues.
