An act of war was duly committed by Yemen with the launching of a long-range ballistic missile whose impact set off a fire at Central Israel, according to the Israeli military. The missile activated an alarm for air raids in Tel Aviv and other regions, including the Ben Gurion International Airport, and the people had to rush for their shelters. Thankfully, no loss of life or massive destruction was felt, and flight operations continued shortly after the incident.
TV clips and stills demonstrated a fragment of the missile that hit an escalator in a train station in the central town of Modi’in. The military said that the rocket flew from east to central Israel and exploded in the open field. Israeli emergency services Magen David Adom said nine people suffered minor injuries as they tried to flee the area. Explosions were also heard, although these were caused by Israeli missile interceptors performing their tasks of defending the country.
The news released by the Saba news agency, which the Houthi Rebels control, stated that the Israeli defense system failed to intercept the missile before it fired on impact. A Houthi media official said, “A Yemeni missile hit Israel after twenty missiles missed intercepting it. ” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said that the group used a new hypersonic ballistic missile to target a military facility in the Jaffa area without being shot down by the Israelis.
The Houthi group, also known as Ansar Allah, controls most of Yemen and has been assaulting Israeli-related vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November. These attacks are presented in the form of protests supporting the Palestinians while there is still conflict in Gaza. Despite a continuous air campaign by a U.S.-led coalition against Houthi, the group has sustained its missile and drone strikes, heightening the tension in the region.
