Susan Wojcicki, one of Google’s early leaders, succumbed to cancer after 2 years of fighting, Alphabet and Google CEO announced Saturday.
Wojcicki can rightly be credited for the course that YouTube was set to chart from the start.
A few days ago, on the X social media platform, Mr. Pichai commented the following: ‘‘Life is incredibly fragile, and after two years beating cancer, I lost my dear friend Susan Wojcicki.” I hope that such public and vibrant figures will support preventing women’s cancer through early diagnosis and timely interventions.”
According to Mr. Pichai, she was one of the most incredible persons, friends, and leaders who affected the world in a great way.
In his post, the Google CEO expressed the company’s loss due to her passing, stating he, among other many Googlers, is privileged to have known her: “I am one of many Googlers for whom it was a privilege to know her. We will miss her. Our thoughts go out to her family. RIP Susan.”
She was an early Google employee and had had a ‘Google founders award’ for creating AdSense, which was of immense help towards Google’s advertising.
Through her leadership in YouTube as the CEO, she has taken the company to another level, influencing millions of contributors and billions of viewers around the world.
Besides her contribution to the product sector that she helped create, Wojcicki is remembered for her efforts in empowering women in tech, which makes her a muse to young leaders across the globe.
Thus, Indian-American Neal Mohan became the new YouTube CEO, replacing Wojcicki in February 2023, as she stated that she would leave the Google-owned company after 25 years.
