Zelensky says Ukraine peace talks with Russia depend on US polls

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that the outcome of next month’s US presidential election “depends” on the possibility of peace talks with Russia.

When asked if Moscow was ready for negotiations with Kyiv, Zelensky told journalists in comments released Tuesday: “

First of all, it depends on the elections in the United States. I think they will be watching the United States’ policy.”

I talked with both of them, and I expect the United States to demonstrate this policy very quickly after the elections… they won’t wait for January, ” Zelensky said.

Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed skepticism over Washington’s military and financial support to Kyiv, and the fear of victory for the Republican candidate is liable to create problems for Kyiv as it battles Russian forces in the east and south.

However, Zelensky said he held “good” meetings with President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate.

“I had a good meeting with Trump. It was very positive. And I’m glad about that. I had a perfect meeting with Harris, not the first one,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader also said that he believed Germany was “afraid” of how Russia would react if Ukraine were invited to join the NATO military alliance.

“It is a fact that the German side is skeptical about us joining NATO,” Zelensky said.

“They are afraid of the NATO-Germany issue in terms of the Russian reaction,

The Ukrainian leader demanded an instant invitation to join NATO as part of his “victory plan,” which triggered a furious reaction in Moscow.

He said he believed France and Britain supported him, and the response from Germany and other NATO countries such as Hungary and Slovakia “depends on the United States.”.
