Zelenskyy, in an attempt to improve ties with Donald Trump following White House tensions, stated that Ukraine must have “normal” relations with the US.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday stated that his nation must have functional relations with US President Donald Trump. His statement followed a fallout at the White House last month, which aggravated the relations between the two presidents.
Closeness to the United States is of significant importance to Ukraine. I speak on behalf of Ukraine as president. America speaks through Donald Trump, being the legally elected president. We have to have normal, working relations,” Zelenskyy said
The relationship between the two leaders hit an all-time low after both leaders had a hot argument at the White House on February 28 in front of the camera. Zelenskyy was subsequently asked to leave without signing the minerals deal, for which he had come to the US. Trump had blamed Zelenskyy for not being prepared for peace.
On Friday, Zelenskyy also blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for undermining diplomacy over his reaction to the US-Ukrainian offer of an unconditional 30-day ceasefire, as a move to put an end to war. He is now trying everything in his power to undermine diplomacy by putting extremely tough and unacceptable conditions from the beginning even before a ceasefire,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
Putin had been concerned about the conditions of the agreement and questioned whether Ukraine would adhere to the stipulated terms.
