The president said security guarantees to Kyiv could only be effective from the US and further added that if the US withdrew from Nato, this would lead the Kremlin to “become much more aggressive with regard to Europe.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that security guarantees for Kyiv would only make sense if it came from the US and said a US exit from NATO would only exacerbate aggression the Kremlin would throw at Europe.
In an interview with American podcaster Lex Fridman published on Sunday, Zelenskyy—who expressed hope to meet US President-elect Donald Trump after his inauguration—said that it was up to the US to determine its future.
However, if Washington under Trump exits the military alliance Nato, it would weaken the grouping and embolden Putin in Europe.
